HONOURING HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

Human Rights Day is more than a public holiday – it is a day of remembrance. It is a day that calls us to honour the sacrifices made by those who stood fearlessly against injustice.

As we look back on the day, we are reminded that freedom was never inevitable. It was earned through resistance, unity, and the belief that every human being deserves dignity.

From the women who marched in 1956 during the days of apartheid, South African women have always been more than participants in the struggle. They have always been the backbone of any struggle even till this day. Their resilience paved the way for generations to come. They dared to challenge oppression.

The fight for human rights did not end in 1994. The current generation continues to confront the injustices that persist, from gender‑based violence, inequality, economic exclusion to the everyday barriers that limit women.

Human Rights Day reminds us that dignity is universal — and that our nation is strongest when women’s voices, leadership, and freedoms are protected and celebrated.

As we commemorate Human Rights Day, may we honour those who came before us by continuing from where they left off. Let us not forget to spread love and kindness.

HAPPY HUMAN RIGHTS DAY.
